Thinking about the process in which light travels, bends, and filters through surroundings in ways it can’t be controlled, Baxter creates a visual metaphor to the way art travels through the viewer. Utilizing shapes and forms created by areas of light from other artist’s work and her personal surroundings, she is able to liquify the solid world into a flowing moment caught within the physical confines of artistic expression. She transforms these areas of light into completely new creations, allowing them to bend and flow through herself onto the canvas. By allowing this light to filter through herself, Baxter creates images that not only show the unique perspective of an individual, but also incite reflection within the viewer. This allows them a moment to contemplate the ways in which their own influences travel, bend, and filter through themselves, shining via their own contemporary experience in ways the original creator can't control.
