Focusing on texture, I created extreme contrast by creating smooth and rough surfaces. I came across alarm clocks and a lamp that provided me with smooth surfaces to cast. To contrast the smooth, I wrapped the lamp cord around the alarm clocks and lamp to secure them all together, then proceeded to fill the remaining holes in the cast with rough fabric. While casting, my mold did break in ways that were not intentional, but resulted in many beautiful plaster sculptures rather than just one. The roughness of the exposed, cracked plaster contrasts the smooth angles and lines of the alarm clocks and the gridded lamp in ways that highlight each texture. In order not to distract from the intricate textures I created, I used purely black paint to further emphasize the contrast within the pieces.
